We are seeking a passionate and creative Landscape Design/Architect to join our collaborative team. In this role, you will be responsible for leading master site planning efforts for custom residential landscapes, working from the initial concept to construction. You will be involved in all phases of design and construction, ensuring that each project reflects the client’s vision and integrates seamlessly with architectural elements. You will also manage projects, collaborate with other disciplines, and oversee the execution of the landscape design, all while ensuring high standards of design, sustainability, and client satisfaction.

 

Detailed Role and Responsibilities:

The successful applicant will be responsible for the following:

  • Master Site Planning Leadership: Lead the development of comprehensive master site plans for large-scale residential properties, working closely with the architecture team to ensure seamless integration of the site layout with the overall building design. Design and plan the overall layout of outdoor spaces, incorporating functional, aesthetic, and sustainable elements, while reflecting the unique character of the site and the client’s vision.
  • Custom Residential Landscape Design: Design functional, beautiful, and sustainable custom landscapes, including hardscapes, softscapes, water features, and outdoor living spaces. Ensure each design is aligned with the broader architectural vision of the project.
  • Project Management: Manage landscape projects through all phases, including pre-planning, conceptual design, construction documentation, and execution. Oversee time management, budgets, quotations, and project schedules, while maintaining awareness of project fees and deadlines.
  • Collaboration & Relationship Building: Work closely with clients, architects, interior designers, engineers, and consultants, ensuring clear communication and fostering strong, lasting relationships. Serve as the main point of contact for clients, trades, and subcontractors, ensuring that expectations are met and exceeded.
  • Regulatory Approvals & Site Planning: Navigate the approval process for landscape projects, including building permits, conservation guidelines, site alterations, and other regulatory submissions. Ensure compliance with all zoning and planning requirements.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in custom homes and complex residential properties.
  • BLA/MLA from an accredited program.
  • OALA membership is preferred (full member or associate).
  • Proficient in drafting and 3D modeling. Knowledge of rendering software is a definite asset.
  • Strong background in master site planning, with experience in creating comprehensive, large-scale landscape designs that integrate architecture and site planning.
  • Experience managing projects through all phases, from design to execution, ensuring quality, deadlines, and budgets are met.
  • Strong understanding of landscape materials, techniques, systems, and styles, with an ability to innovate and push creative boundaries.
  • Knowledge of site planning, regulatory approvals, and submission requirements, including navigating municipal approvals, conservation guidelines, and site-specific regulations.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while adapting to changing schedules, priorities, and deadlines.
  • Excellent time management, organizational, and problem-solving skills, with a strong attention to detail and the ability to troubleshoot challenges effectively.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present and communicate ideas clearly to clients, contractors, and other project stakeholders.
