In the Making: Hillside Contemporary Estate – European Inspired Integrated Design
Our In the Making series offers a behind-the-scenes look at projects as they move through construction; capturing the decisions, coordination, and craftsmanship that shape them along the way. In this episode, we share an early look at Project Hillside Contemporary Estate, a large-scale contemporary residence currently under construction, highlighting the planning, technical detailing, and integrated collaboration guiding the project as it comes to life.
At nearly 200 feet in length, the residence required careful organization to maintain efficiency and flow throughout. From circulation to room adjacencies, the layout was designed to feel deliberate and effortless; supporting everyday living as well as large-scale entertaining.
The architecture is distinctly contemporary, articulated through modern gable forms, expansive glazing, and a restrained material palette. Natural tumbled limestone and heavy timber detailing introduce texture and warmth, grounding the home while reinforcing its permanence within the landscape.
Behind the scenes, early technical coordination plays a defining role. Roof assemblies were designed to integrate concealed blind systems and seamless drywall-to-window transitions, enabling tall, uninterrupted glazing without compromise. These decisions reduce future complexity while elevating the finished interior.
Interior design and landscape architecture were developed alongside the architectural framework, allowing details such as window sizing, millwork alignment, cabinetry integration, and outdoor spaces to be resolved holistically rather than in isolation.
This Work in Progress episode highlights how integrated planning allows complex contemporary estates to unfold with confidence; minimizing surprises, preserving design intent, and creating a home that feels as considered as it looks.
